February Lesson Help #3
This Power Point covers:
"Why Do We Have Adversity?"
Such a great topic! I enjoyed putting this lesson together. Again, I had SO much info to include it was very difficult to narrow it down. I used a New Era article from 2006 on Adversity in addition to the articles from the lds.org outline. I also found a Q&A from the New Era where Youth were answering the question "Why do we have trials?" I included those quotes above if you'd like to use them. I think I will keep them on hand and if we have time at the end of class I will hand a few out to the girls to read. I think they relate to their peers. I like to include these quotes when I can.
Slide 16 is where I plan to ask the girls to think of challenges and trials they think youth their age are faced with. If you want to just use your chalkboard that is great. I typed up a few just to give the basic idea. Then once the girls have listed trials, have them think about what they can learn from each trial.
Slide 19 makes reference to the story when Nephi breaks his bow and the difference between his reaction and the reaction of His brothers. I'm always short on time so I may end up just summarizing the story or having one of the girls summarize it and then discuss the differences.
The handout is a fun one. I loved the idea of letting adversity make us better NOT bitter. I thought you could pair it with anything lemon! Lemonheads, lemonade kool aid, the little single size powder packs that make lemonade,
lemon sqaures etc...you get the point. :)
Have a great lesson!
October: "Becoming More Christlike" Outline
This Power Point Covers:
All 5 topics for October combined into 1 lesson.
"How can I become more like Christ?"
"How can I develop Christlike love?"
"How can I be more Christlike in my service to others?"
"How can I learn to be more patient?"
"Why is it important to be grateful?"
Due to General Conference and other combined lessons I needed to combine all of the "Come Follow Me" topics into one lesson. This Powerpoint covers Christ like love & Service, Patience, and Gratitude. I shared 2 videos: "Cheering Each Other On" and "Continue in Patience" I ran out of time but planned on sharing the gratitude video found here
"O Remember, Remember" I know that's a lot of videos! More than I normally share but they were short and I thought they brought the Spirit. :) I also had slips of paper with scenarios on them. Each girl chose one and we went around the room sharing our thoughts on how we could respond with Christlike love, patience or gratitude. This was the girl's favorite part and I felt like it gave them real-world examples. Feel free to add your own based on your individual girls situations.
-"My parents FINALLY got me a phone! All my friends have iPhones or smart phones. My phone is so basic I can barely text" (gratitude)
-"My Dad's position at work changed and money is a bit tight. My older brother started mowing lawns on the weekend to help out. He complains a lot about spending his whole weekend working. Boy, glad its not me!" (service/christ like love)
-"I worked so hard preparing for volleyball tryouts. I took extra coaching sessions and practiced every day. I can't believe I didn't make the team! It's so unfair!" (patience)
I had about 4 examples for each topic. I would have uploaded the file but I didn't save it! Gasp! Can you believe it, shame on me! :(
I also bought the "mini" SPRITE cans and attached this tag "Do the SPRITE thing, Be Christlike!"
(The font for the Power Point is left very plain so that most people can see the slides clearly. When I use fonts that are original to my computer I've found the file does not download well to someone else's computer who does not have the font. The formatting gets messed up. Feel free to brighten it up with fun fonts. ;)
**Please Note: Due to different versions of power point the slides may need to be adjusted after you download them. Please go through the power point before your lesson to make sure the pictures and the text are formatted correctly! I just opened a file I made using my laptop with my iPad and the font was different, colors were different and some of the pictures were in the wrong place. It may take a little tweeking! :)**
I'm a 36 year old Mom of 4 kiddos, 3 boys (12, 4 & 2 years old) and one little princess (9). I have an awesome hubby who puts up with my craziness...He supports me when I spend way too much time on my YW lessons. I started this blog for fun and have been so excited to watch it grow and watch others being able to use the Power Point lessons, handouts and other ideas I have posted. Thank you for stopping by!
