I love the question "Who could be blessed by your compassion?" instead of the obvious people I might think of, I want to think a little deeper. I want to think on the uncomfortable side of things...maybe the people who could be blessed the most by our compassion are the ones who we think deserve it the least. Maybe it's the driver who cuts you off, maybe it's a co-worker who is always against you. Maybe it's someone who has hurt you...badly. I think if I can offer compassion when it's difficult I will grow immensely and BOTH of us will be blessed.
Christ is the ultimate example of compassion and kindness to all; especially those who did not deserve it. I hope I can follow the Savior's example and extend my love and compassion to ALL!
I love this quote by Elder Neal A. Maxwell. We all have the choice to make room for the Savior in our lives. This time of year especially, there is so much going on and so many responsibilities. I know there is more than enough room in my life for the Savior and his teachings. Without Him, I am nothing. Do you have 2 minutes and 45 seconds? Good..then check out this beautiful video www.christmas.mormon.org.

October lesson #1
This Power Point Covers:
How Can I Become More Christlike?
Just a quick note about conference....Conference was amazing! I have thought back on the talks today and feel excited to re-focus and prioritze my life. I am also so thankful for our Prophet and the other church leaders. It is comforting to me to know they are leading us towards Christ.
The October lesson outlines are about Becoming More Christlike. What a perfect topic to focus on his month as we reflect on the most recent conference messages.
President Uchtdorf gave a talk in 2005 entitled "Christlike Attributes - The Wind Beneath My Wings" I used some of his words as a supplement to what was given in the outline. I have already divulged my love for Mormonads so I was pleasantly surprised to see a list in the lesson outline! I of course included them in the slides! :)
Both Videos in the outline are beautiful! They are short and if you can incorporate them I would if I were you! "Christlike Attributes" is one of my favorites...if you can't fit it in the lesson, use it for FHE. *Bring a kleenex box ;)
The outline includes the "Attribute Activity" found in the Preach My Gospel manual. It is a list of attributes and scriptures that go with each one. The students are asked to rate themselves 1-5 based on the frequency with which they use the characteristic in their life. It is a great tool that we can all learn from and refer back to over and over.
You can download it here.
The handout comes from one of the phrases on the Mormonads. I LOVE it! I found a graphic of a pottery masterpiece being formed. I loved how it ties into the visual of all of us being "clay in the potters hands," (Jeremiah 18:3-6)
Have a great lesson!
July's VT Message is about the Savior as our Advocate. An advocate is defined as "one who pleads for another." What a beautiful description of our Savior's love for us. At the bottom of all VT messages are questions to ponder. I used the question to form the last part of the message where it invites all of us to extend mercy and forgiveness to others, as the Savior does so for us. The link at the top is for a 4X6 image for you to share with your sisters.
Easter can be tricky. The commercial side of this sacred holiday can definitely get in the way of the true reason we celebrate. I wanted to come up with something that could keep the focus on Christ while still incorporating the tradition of an Easter Basket. Pinterest and Sugardoodle had some awesome resources. I used ideas from here and there and came up with some printable tags that can be attached to standard Easter basket items. In an ideal world, the family would look through their Easter baskets, reading the thoughts and marking scriptures as they go. In the real world, that may not happen. :) At the very least I hope these tags will remind our family members that Christ is the reason we celebrate Easter. I personally prefer to do the Easter Baskets and Egg Hunts on Saturday, the day before Easter Sunday. It doesn't always happen that way but when it does I can certainly tell a difference. Our Easter Sunday is more calm and peaceful.
The tags can be used for any of the following items:
Candy, chocolate bunnies, food, eggs, peeps, CTR rings, gum, water bottles/drinks, clothing, pictures of Christ, scripture markers, play dough, etc.
The PDF file has 4 pages with 4 tags on each sheet. The tags are meant to be cut out. You can print it on normal paper, cardstock, whatever you choose. I have typed gift ideas next to each tag in the corresponding color. These are just suggestions and are meant to be cut around not included with the tag!
Hopefully this his helpful for those of you like me, who struggle to make Easter traditions more Christ-Centered.
YW March Lesson #5
This Power point Covers:
"What Is The Resurrection?"
This lesson will be taught to our young women the last Sunday of March. However, I feel like this will be our Easter lesson. The outlines for April are on different topics. I loved preparing this lesson and I'm glad it's a few weeks before Easter so that I can truly prepare myself, my family and the YW for a Christ-centered Easter.
The resurrection is a topic I was very familiar with but I did not truly have a testimony of it until I lost my Father very suddenly 11 years ago. His death was an opportunity for me to study the resurrection and what a gift it truly is. A belief that we will be reunited with our loved ones makes the sting of death much easier to bear. Another facet of the resurrection that we may not think about is that the resurrection gives meaning to our lives. If we know we will live again after this mortal life we will try harder to accomplish important things while we are here. The resurrection gives us hope, meaning, and comfort.
The video I chose to show is a "Mormon Message" entitled "Sunday Will Come" I have added a link to the download above because it is not available to download from mormonchannel.org.
I also touched on the topic of having a focus on the Savior during the Easter holiday. I don't want to step on anyone's toes, all familie's traditions are different. I made mention of it because it was in the outline from lds.org and I think its a good reminder for all of us to keep our mind centered on the true reason for celebration.
The handout is very simple. I wanted it to be light, bright, and incorporate springtime. The message is also simple but profound. HE IS RISEN!
Have a wonderful lesson
YW March Lesson #2
This Power Point Covers:
"What Does It Mean To Have Faith In Jesus Christ"
Now this is another lesson that could really take up 2 weeks or more! Trying to narrow down the information always proves to be a challenge! I love the topic of Faith and I hope the girls leave the lesson feeling strong, and excited to move forward in Faith.
I wanted to make sure I touched on the topic of "questions/doubts" I think it is so important for the youth to know that it is very normal for them to have questions. It is what they choose to do with their questions that makes the difference. I believe if they will turn to the Word of God and the Word of our Prophets they will find answers, their testimony will grow, and they will develop faith in the Savior. If they feel discouraged, embarrassed and ashamed because they don't understand something gospel-related that can lead them right into Satan's waiting arms!
The video "Pure & Simple Faith" was so touching. The story of a young woman in the Philippines who had such strong faith for the most basic of needs. It is both humbling and inspiring!
The handout says "Faith is a gift from God but we must nurture our faith to keep it strong." There is a section of slides that describes what it means to nurture our faith and how we can do that. I believe all of us, regardless of our age are always in the process of nurturing our faith and our testimony. I thought if you wanted to give a little something along with the handout, anything related to "nurture" or "grow" would be cute. The stores are full of darling little Easter candies, treats etc. Anything with a little flower on it or a small seed packet or a little clay pot, etc would be cute. The dollar store is always a great resource. Just the handout is great too! Never feel the need to spend money for handouts! :) The handout is formatted to be printed as a 4X6, if you need a different size let me know.
Have a great lesson.
**Please Note: Due to different versions of power point the slides may need to be adjusted after you download them. Please go through the power point before your lesson to make sure the pictures and the text are formatted correctly! I just opened a file I made using my laptop with my iPad and the font was different, colors were different and some of the pictures were in the wrong place. It may take a little tweeking! :)**
I'm a 36 year old Mom of 4 kiddos, 3 boys (12, 4 & 2 years old) and one little princess (9). I have an awesome hubby who puts up with my craziness...He supports me when I spend way too much time on my YW lessons. I started this blog for fun and have been so excited to watch it grow and watch others being able to use the Power Point lessons, handouts and other ideas I have posted. Thank you for stopping by!
