September YW Lesson Helps - How Do I Guard My Virtue?
Alma 26:12 12 Yea, I know that I am nothing; as to my strength I am weak; therefore I will not boast of myself, but I will boast of my God, for in his strength I can do all things; yea, behold, many mighty miracles we have wrought in this land, for which we will praise his name forever. Videos: Watch Your Step www.lds.org/youth/learn/yw/commandments/virtue?lang=eng#video=watch-your-step Guardians of Virtue www.lds.org/youth/learn/yw/commandments/virtue?lang=eng#video=guardians-of-virtue The lesson outline asked the following questions: Consider how living a virtuous life brings peace to you. What effects does pornography have on the world and on families? How have you been a guardian of virtue? How might young women’s language, actions, and appearance affect others? How might young women be exposed to pornography? What gospel principles and preventive measures can help them keep their thoughts and actions pure? I did not add a slide for these questions but I think they are excellent points to address and ways to start valuable conversations. Teachers could ask these questions to the girls and allow them to share their experiences with the class. Both of the videos above are wonderful. Choose whichever is most appropriate for your girls. The handout comes from the scripture in Proverbs 31:10. Focusing on a virtuous woman having worth far above rubies. I thought you could tie the handout to a small bag of red candies (gumballs, cherry drops, hot tamales etc). (see example below) Have a wonderful lesson!
YW August Lesson #3 Why is Chastity Important?
This Power Point Covers: "Why Is Chastity Important?" I prepared another lesson from this outline last year. You can find it HERE. Both of the lessons are prepared from the "Come Follow Me" outline. Feel free to use either or both. :) The focus of this Power Point is being proactive. Teaching the YW what the Church's standards are and how they can avoid making mistakes by making commitments NOW. While this topic can be awkward at times, if we follow the resources the church has provided us, we can't go wrong! The "For the Strength of Youth" pamphlet really spells it out! It leaves no room for misunderstanding. I appreciate the honest approach the Church has taken in regard to leading our youth. The world's standards continue to fall and we have to fortify ourselves against Satan. I used the FTSOY pamphlet, True to the Faith, as well as all but one of the articles listed in the outline. The 3 video options are awesome! My 2013 lesson utilizes "True Confidence". I LOVE this video. The other two videos are also powerful. You may need to watch all 3 and see which is most appropriate for your girls. The quote for the handout comes from "True to the Faith." I wanted the girls to really understand the importance of making their decision NOW! When the temptations come the ability to make correct decisions is much more difficult. I love how the quote encourages the girls to make such a FIRM and DEEP commitment that it can NEVER be shaken! This type of deep commitment is more than just a "good idea." The girls souls are at stake! Have a wonderful lesson, Jen ![]()
![]() August: Marriage & Family Lesson Outline After a short hiatus I am back in Young Womens (Yay!) I LOVE Young Womens. I know you aren't supposed to "aspire" to certain callings but I honestly love being with the girls and learning from them. I am super excited to be back. :) Now, for my first lesson...drum roll..CHASTITY! Nice, light hearted topic right!;) Because of the program changes I plan on taking my lap top with me each week to show various videos with each lesson. This decision led to me starting to use Power Points for my lesson. It works for me because i am super visual. INstead of printing tons of colored images to display now I can simply download them into the powerpoint! I am going to post these for any of you to use. I hope it helps! ;) Feel free to send me an email or comment on things you would like to see. This obviously isn't my full time job but I enjoy it and would love feedback. The link to the video I showed is below: "True Confidence" (Please note this font is one you may or may not have in your operating system. If it isn't you will have to re-format the pages. I apologize for that. When I originally made this PP I didn't plan on sharing it and didn't think about the font issues ;) |

**Please Note: Due to different versions of power point the slides may need to be adjusted after you download them. Please go through the power point before your lesson to make sure the pictures and the text are formatted correctly! I just opened a file I made using my laptop with my iPad and the font was different, colors were different and some of the pictures were in the wrong place. It may take a little tweeking! :)**
