A sweet sister approached me about the translating the theme into Spanish. I am so glad she had the idea and was willing to help me make it happen. The file is for a 20 X 30 poster but can be sized down if needed.
Thank you Alma!!!
In previous years, I created theme posters that were either gender neutral or I created both a YM and a YW version. Recently, I had many requests from you all for a gender neutral poster for this year's theme.
It's funny how the design slowly morphed into the final piece. I am very happy with how it turned out and I hope you can use it. The images are from the lds.org media library.
All the sizes can be downloaded below:
I love the new 2017 youth theme taken from James 1:5-6. What a fabulous focus for the year! The sooner our youth learn that they can petition the Lord for strength the better. In October 2016 Sister Carole McConkie's talk was titled "Our Soul's Sincere Desire" it was a beautiful talk that I felt truly magnified the power of prayer. I chose to add a quote from her timely talk at the bottom of the poster. It mentions 5 of the answers we can receive to sincere, heartfelt prayer. Healing, protection, knowledge, forgiveness and peace. I think giving these specific examples to our youth will give them a clearer picture of the fruits of prayer. I have attached downloadable files below in multiple sizes, arranged largest to smallest. Feel free to use them if you'd like!
Like I do each year I prepared an additional poster with keywords from the scripture defined for clearer meaning. I think spending time on these words and truly studying what this scripture means can have a greater influence on our youth. They will most likely read and recite this scripture numerous time this year and throughout their lives. If they have disected it's meaning I think it will be a powerful tool in their arsenal against Satan. I have attached downloadable files below in multiple sizes, arranged largest to smallest. Feel free to use them if you'd like!
September YW Lesson Helps - How Do I Guard My Virtue?
12 Yea, I know that I am nothing; as to my strength I am weak; therefore I will not boast of myself, but I will boast of my God, for in his strength I can do all things; yea, behold, many mighty miracles we have wrought in this land, for which we will praise his name forever.

Guardians of Virtue
The lesson outline asked the following questions: Consider how living a virtuous life brings peace to you. What effects does pornography have on the world and on families? How have you been a guardian of virtue?
How might young women’s language, actions, and appearance affect others? How might young women be exposed to pornography? What gospel principles and preventive measures can help them keep their thoughts and actions pure?
I did not add a slide for these questions but I think they are excellent points to address and ways to start valuable conversations. Teachers could ask these questions to the girls and allow them to share their experiences with the class.
Both of the videos above are wonderful. Choose whichever is most appropriate for your girls.
The handout comes from the scripture in Proverbs 31:10. Focusing on a virtuous woman having worth far above rubies. I thought you could tie the handout to a small bag of red candies (gumballs, cherry drops, hot tamales etc). (see example below)
Have a wonderful lesson!
Parenthood is a Sacred Duty
*pictures are from the media files on lds.org.
There were so many beautiful pictures of Mothers loving their children on lds.org. I thought it would be impactful to have a collage showing daily opportunities we have to show our love. It is so easy to get caught up in the craziness of this life. We are all so busy. This month's message is such a great reminder about what is truly important.
Susan W. Tanner, former Young Women general president, taught: “Our Father in Heaven exemplifies the pattern we should follow. He loves us, teaches us, is patient with us, and entrusts us with our agency. … Sometimes discipline, which means ‘to teach,’ is confused with criticism. Children—as well as people of all ages—improve behavior from love and encouragement more than from fault-finding.”
Nurturing Families Together
I couldn't decide between these two quotes so I decided to make them both! I love love love the idea of our homes being "Laboratories of God's Love." I like the analogy too because the things going on in labs are not always perfect! There is a lot of trial and error and learning from mistakes. Isn't that how our homes are? We are experimenting at times to figure out how to parent each child the best way we can.
The second quote from Sister Burton asks us to consider how often we INTENTIONALLY speak kind words to each other. I love this question. It inspires me to try harder. It inspires me to think about each of my family members individually and to think of something specific that they need to hear.
Enjoy your last month of summer!
I choose this quote from the June message because I loved the word "bind" that Sister Burton used to describe our relationship with our Heavenly Father and Jesus. Here is the definition of "bind"
If you think about regularly attending the temple and remembering and honoring our covenants as a way to secure ourselves tightly to our Father in Heaven and Jesus Christ I think it is a powerful visual. Also, the second definition describes binding as becoming one single mass..or becoming one with Heavenly Father and the Savior. Beautiful symbolism!
This Power Point Covers:
How do I receive the power and blessings of the priesthood in my life?
This is another beautiful lesson on the Power of the Priesthood. I think this lesson does a wonderful job pointing out that the Priesthood is for ALL. Women are equal partners in this life and can access all the blessings available through the Priesthood.
I used all the included talks found in the "Come Follow Me" lesson outline. I especially liked the talk by Sister Carole Stephens of the General Relief Society and have many quotes from her throughout the slides.
The video in the outline was a great summary and visual for this lesson and if you have time I'm sure your young women would benefit from watching it. You can download the Video Here.
For the handout I wanted to use "POP" or Power Of the Priesthood. I came up with a mock airline ticket that you can attach to a blow pop sucker, a tootsie pop sucker, a bag of popcorn, a can of "pop" etc... Above you can download the image as a single ticket or I have a file with 3 tickets to a page. This can be printed as a 4 X 6 at any photo center.
I want the girls to know that they are a Priority, First Class passenger on this flight!
They can take advantage of the blessings of the Priesthood every single day.
Our journey through this mortal life will be blessed immensely if we take advantage of the Power Of the Priesthood!
We all have Priority Tickets and VIP Seats! Hop aboard “POP” Airlines
and enjoy the journey!
Enjoy Your Lesson!
It's never easy to pick just one thought from General Conference to share with your sisters. Hopefully one of these speaks to you!

**Please Note: Due to different versions of power point the slides may need to be adjusted after you download them. Please go through the power point before your lesson to make sure the pictures and the text are formatted correctly! I just opened a file I made using my laptop with my iPad and the font was different, colors were different and some of the pictures were in the wrong place. It may take a little tweeking! :)**
I'm a 36 year old Mom of 4 kiddos, 3 boys (12, 4 & 2 years old) and one little princess (9). I have an awesome hubby who puts up with my craziness...He supports me when I spend way too much time on my YW lessons. I started this blog for fun and have been so excited to watch it grow and watch others being able to use the Power Point lessons, handouts and other ideas I have posted. Thank you for stopping by!
