Have you watched the video of the new 2014 Theme Song? If not, click here I have watched it 3 times and been brought to tears every time! The video and the lyrics of the song are so powerful! It brought such a strong Spirit to the room I knew I wanted to do something so that the YW could remember the video and remember the 2014 theme. The entire song is beautiful but it wouldn't fit on a 5X7 or 8X10. :) Instead I chose to use the chorus. I wanted to emphasize the lines in the song where it says He is calling YOUR name, He is waiting for YOU! I want the girls to feel how personal this invitation is for all of us!
I have made this image in a 5X7 and an 8X10. I thought this would be a wonderful Easter gift or a New Beginnings gift if you haven't already had your New Beginnings. You can print this image at Costco, WalMart or any other photo center. You can purchase inexpensive frames and frame them for your girls. If you are using this as an Easter gift it could be given at the end of your Easter lesson or I have seen some cute LDS Easter Egg Hunt ideas on Pinterest you could use for an activity. The final egg could tell the girls where to go to find their gift and you could have a framed picture for each girl. Just a couple ideas. :) If you need a size other than the 5X7 or 8X10 let me know. :)
I wanted to come up with an actual INVITATION that could be used in the introduction of the 2014 theme or in New Beginnings. I used this article from the YW General Presidency entitled "You Are Invited." If you haven't read it, it's a wonderful resource and a quick read! I also put together this short, 8 slide Power Point (download is also above) that visually breaks down this same article from the YW General Presidency. I hope this helps you as you prepare for New Beginnings and the 2014 theme introduction. The JPEG is a much clearer image but if you can't open it here is a PDF of the invitation.
**For those who have requested a Spanish version of the Power Point...Thank you to Nancy for translating! I have attached the Spanish version below! :)
There are so many invitations in the scriptures to "Come Unto Christ" I have made a list of 10 that you can look over. I feel like the more we can use the scriptures when teaching and explaining concepts the more the youth will turn to the scriptures for answers. These scriptures (and many others) can be used to introduce the 2014 theme, for New Beginnings, or during our lessons or activities. You can either present the scriptures to the youth, or give the girls a list, split them into groups, and let them look the scriptures up and share them with the rest of the girls. I want the girls to know how much the Savior loves them and longs for them to Come to Him. Let me know if you have other ideas for incorporating the scriptures!
I have been wanting to do a Christ centered "12 Days of Christmas" activity with my family and with my Young Women. What a perfect time to draw our hearts and minds to the Savior! Not only because it's Christmas but in preparation for the new year and the new Youth theme "Come Unto Christ.
Because today is the 13th I knew I had to get on the ball! I found a lesson called "Drawing Near Unto Christ" (YW Manual 2 Lesson 1) I used that for the basis of this activity. I have also added a few things.
The attached PDF (and Word doc) has a page for each 12 days prior to Christmas. You can start on the 13th of December and finish on Christmas Eve or you can start on the 14th and finish Christmas Day.
The first page explains the activity:
12 Days Closer to Christ
It’s 12 days until Christmas! Each day until then you will receive an envelope from us with a new thought, scripture, challenge & small treat. Once you have completed the challenge you can eat the treat!
We know things about Christ, but do we actually KNOW him?
John 17:3 “And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.”
For the next 12 days we will focus on qualities of the Savior and experiences He had so that we can truly know him better.
Jesus Christ loves each of us. He gave his life for us, atoned for our sins, and desires that we each Come unto Him.
D&C 88:63: “Draw near unto me and I will draw near unto you; seek me diligently and ye shall find me; ask, and ye shall receive; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.”
We hope for the next 12 days, together, we can Seek and Find, Ask and Receive, Knock and have answers opened unto us. Your challenge is to take part in this activity by reading the scriptures and doing your best to complete the challenges.
As your YW leaders we want you to know how much we love you. We also know how much the Savior and Heavenly Father love you.
This activity could work for your family, youth, visiting teaching sisters, neighbors etc. I have attached the file in both PDF and Word. I attached the Word document so you could make any necessary changes based on who you decided to use the activity for.
I kept it SUPER SIMPLE! All we need at this time of year is more stress right?!? :) The treats should just be something small...a snack size chocolate bar, a laffy taffy, etc. Just a little reward for completing the challenge. I plan on printing out a page for each girl, signing it, putting the letter and a small candy inside an envelope and dropping it off at their homes each day. It will take some time, but I think it will be SO worth it!
If the girls complete this activity I believe they will realize that the Atonement means so much! They can find forgiveness, comfort, understanding, joy and so much more in their relationship with Jesus Christ.
Merry Christmas! I hope you have a wonderful holiday.
I LOVE this quote from Sister Marriott! It came from the "Church News" on November 12, 2013. You can read it HERE . I love the image of a "Call To Arms." It is a true battle our youth are involved in! This is a battle for their ETERNAL lives. Sister Marriott reminds us that because we are surrounded by ungodliness, we need to be prepared to DENY IT! As a Youth leader I feel a great responsibility to help "arm" these young women with the spiritual strength they need to walk away from sin and towards Christ. I wanted to make an image I could add to one of my Power Points. I have also attached a PDF for those who can't open the JPEG file. You can download them below:
COME UNTO CHRIST:
John 8:12, "When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
I love this painting by Simon Dewey. It is entitled "Lead Kindly Light." It is on my "Must Have" list for my home. I love this picture and feel like the painting as well as the scripture in John go so perfectly with the 2014 Theme for the Youth "Come Unto Christ." If you look at the Savior's hand it is very gently inviting us to come with him. He holds the light and if we follow him, we will not be lost.
I know many of us are beginning to plan January "New Beginnings" and I thought maybe this image would be helpful or spark some ideas! ;)
**Please note: A copyright is definitely needed to print this image. I do not have a copyright release. I originally put the quote on the image so I could use it on a slide in a Power Point presentation. Since posting it on this site I have been contacted by so many wanting to print it. Unfortunately, I can't help with that. I have emailed a representative for the artist and explained the situation. If the artist or his company decides to put together something similar I will post a link to it on this site. :)
In the meantime, a good option is to purchase the Simon Dewey print and hand that out to your girls. It doesn't have the quote on it but it is still a beautiful depiction of the "Come Unto Christ" theme.
Deseret Book sells the prints (click here)
3X4 for .50 or 5X7 for 1.99.
**People have asked me the name of the fonts used:
All the words except the large "Christ" are (Bodoni Svty Two) the large Christ is (Zapfino).***
Like I mentioned before, I am loving the theme for 2014. I wanted to take the theme and try to "define" it a bit. Sometimes when I present things to the youth I forget to dissect it, to explain it, to give them a visual of what that really means for them. I created this image so I can show my YW, and talk about what each word means. To "Come" is a verb, it requires action and effort. The words are direct quotes from Sister Marriott and Sister Oscarson. The words next to "Unto" come from the dictionary. I used words from the definition of "toward." The words next to "Christ" came from lds.org.
I consider it a great blessing to work with the Young Women. Preparing lessons and teaching them truly strengthens my testimony. My goal is to take this theme and incorporate it into each weekly lesson throughout 2014. As Sister Oscarson stated, "this is at the very core of our gospel."
I have attached both a JPEG and a PDF of the graphic. ;)
I am SO excited about the theme for 2014! I can't wait to come up with more images we can use for display, in our lessons, in power points, in our binders, etc. Here is my first draft. Feel free to download the JPEG with the link above. :)
I can't think of a better message for our Young Women to hear right now. If they can Come Unto Christ and turn their hearts to him, I believe their testimonies will grow and they will be laying a solid foundation for their futures. What a great honor it is to serve in Young Womens with these amazing young ladies.
For those of you that requested the full theme...Here you go!
**Please Note: Due to different versions of power point the slides may need to be adjusted after you download them. Please go through the power point before your lesson to make sure the pictures and the text are formatted correctly! I just opened a file I made using my laptop with my iPad and the font was different, colors were different and some of the pictures were in the wrong place. It may take a little tweeking! :)**
I'm a 36 year old Mom of 4 kiddos, 3 boys (12, 4 & 2 years old) and one little princess (9). I have an awesome hubby who puts up with my craziness...He supports me when I spend way too much time on my YW lessons. I started this blog for fun and have been so excited to watch it grow and watch others being able to use the Power Point lessons, handouts and other ideas I have posted. Thank you for stopping by!
