YW August Lesson #1 Importance of Family
This Power Point Covers: "Why Is The Family Important? "You can help change the world by standing up for what prophets have taught about the family." How cool is that? This quote and the last portion of the slides comes from a March 2012 New Era article by Brittany Beattie. The beginning slides come directly from the "For The Strength of Youth" pamphlet. I also used "Teaching The Doctrine of the Family" by Julie Beck. Of the three suggested videos in the outline, my favorite was the first "Families Can Be Together Forever." The video shows pictures of numerous different families and has sections where President Eyring talks. It is pretty obvious that Satan is focused on destroying the family. His cunning tactics are taking down strong families all the time. It truly is a battle! We all must fight for families. That is why I loved the "Be a Defender of the Family" topic so much. I think letting the youth know this is a battle is so important. The youth are on the front lines for a reason! Have a great lesson, Jen
YW July Lesson #2 Temple Ordinances
This Power Point Covers: Why Are Temple Ordinances Important? In August our lesson focus is "Eternal Marriage." It's great that we can focus on temple ordinances first. I think it is important for the girls to understand the ordinances, how to prepare to receive them, and the blessings that come from them. I used "True to the Faith" for a lot of the slides. I also used quotes from President Monson's talk "The Holy Temple-Beacon to the World" provided for us in the lesson outline. I found a New Era article from Oct 2004 that I used. It is called "Come to the Temple". It had some great advice on how to prepare for the temple. The video in the outline "Temples are a Beacon" comes directly from the conference talk by President Monson. I included some of the quotes already on slides but if you have time the video is a good resource and a touching story about sacrificing to attend the temple. I found the handout image online here. The photographer is Kris Sundberg. Check out all the amazing photos at http://ldstempleart.bigcartel.com/products. Have a wonderful lesson Jen
YW July Lesson #1
This Power Point covers: What Covenants Did I Make At Baptism? I can't believe how crazy summer can be! I apologize for the lack of posts. :) I love this lesson because it is a wonderful reminder for ALL of us. Sometimes I find myself going through the motions during sacrament meeting. I am usually trying to make sure my two year old only takes one piece of bread and that my 5 year old doesn't drop the tray. This craziness makes remembering what covenants I am renewing a challenge! I thoroughly enjoyed this reminder as I prepared the slides for this lesson. I used mainly the "True to the Faith" resource for the slides as well as the scriptures from the outline and some quotes from Elder Robert D. Hales talk in the lesson outline. I loved how Elder Hales talked about how our Baptismal Covenant changes our lives! I had never thought about it that way! I wanted to really drive that point home. I found a wonderful 2:48 minute video that shares a real life example of a young convert who shares how her life has changed since her baptism. The video is called "Mighty Change: Conversion" I found it in the media library on lds.org. The 2 videos in the outline are wonderful too. Both were over 5 minutes so if you are usually pressed for time keep that in mind. :) Slide 15 gives the girls some questions to ponder. Slide 16 is a short activity where each girl can anonymously write down a challenge youth face today. Then after placing it into a container, the class can discuss how keeping our baptismal covenants can help us with the different scenarios and difficult choices. Hopefully these two slides will result in some open dialogue and discussion. :) The handout is very simple. I used my favorite picture depicting the baptism of the Savior. I love the look of absolute joy on the Saviors face. Such a great reminder of what a blessing baptism is in our lives. The handout is designed to be printed as a 4X6. Have a great lesson! Jen ![]()
July's VT Message is about the Savior as our Advocate. An advocate is defined as "one who pleads for another." What a beautiful description of our Savior's love for us. At the bottom of all VT messages are questions to ponder. I used the question to form the last part of the message where it invites all of us to extend mercy and forgiveness to others, as the Savior does so for us. The link at the top is for a 4X6 image for you to share with your sisters.

**Please Note: Due to different versions of power point the slides may need to be adjusted after you download them. Please go through the power point before your lesson to make sure the pictures and the text are formatted correctly! I just opened a file I made using my laptop with my iPad and the font was different, colors were different and some of the pictures were in the wrong place. It may take a little tweeking! :)**
