The Young Men and Young Women general presidencies have announced that 2 Nephi 31:20 is the Mutual theme for 2016. This scripture lays the groundwork for gaining eternal life. We are invited to press forward with steadfastness, having hope and love at all times. If we will do these things, learn from the words of Christ and endure to the end we will in fact have eternal life! What an awesome promise.
I have put together an image for the theme as well as a "logo" that can be used on anything you'd like! I have also put together a "Theme Defined" poster. I did this last year and had an overwhelmingly positive response. The reason I like to define the terms in the scripture is so the youth can really understand what it is they are reciting! (It's good for us adults too!)
I thought long and hard about what image to use for "Press Forward." I used the hikers last year for "Ye That Embark..." so I didn't want to use that again. I thought what does it mean to "Press Forward"? It brings to my mind a commitment or holding tight and moving at a steady pace. These thoughts brought me to this image and the idea of pressing forward steadfastly by clinging to the rod.
The original image of the hand holding the rod came from a 2010 Mormonad entitled "Get A Grip" (I have included an 8X10 below) The picture was brilliantly taken by David Stoker and it was published in the Ensign and Liahona magazines. I thought this Mormonad was another great way to play off the 2016 theme...I love the "Get A Grip" saying.
I hope these images are helpful as you plan for Christmas gifts, New Beginnings, and many more lessons and activities in the year to come!
